Ithaca Privacy Committee
Committee Charge
The Ithaca Privacy Committee establishes the appropriate personal data privacy governance and oversight necessary to support Cornell University's mission. It does so while maintaining the highest ethical standards in the storage, collection, and use of personal data and complying with relevant international, federal, and state laws.
It accomplishes this mission by considering the business needs of the university, the rights and interests of individuals, compliance requirements, the benefits and risks of personal data processing, and the social and academic implications of personal data practices. The Ithaca Privacy Committee advises on policies, procedures, business processes, initiatives, and projects with privacy impacts. It also plays a critical role in providing guidance and education to the broader university community on privacy matters.
The Ithaca Privacy Committee is chaired by University Privacy and composed of senior thought leaders from Cornell’s student, academic, and administrative units. Members are appointed by data stewards and other senior university leaders. The committee meets monthly.
